A Timeless Holiday Tradition

By Based on press release, 2016-11-23

You will be able to find several Nutcrackers around in December, but to my mind none are more wondrous than the versions created by Anaheim Ballet. If you are not completely enchanted and almost moved to tears with its sheer beauty I would be very surprised. It’s worth the best ticket you can afford to buy just to get closer to the front.

The holiday season comes to life in Anaheim Ballet's production of The Nutcracker -- the heartwarming tale of Clara and her Nutcracker Doll who changes her woeful winter into a fanciful feast in Candyland.

The Nutcracker ballet is a cornerstone of seasonal family entertainment and tradition. Athletic Russian dancers, prancing Bon Bons and Tchaikovsky's beautiful "Waltz of the Flowers" are sure to brighten your holidays. This year’s Clara will be danced by Madeline Czekaj.

Anaheim Ballet's Nutcracker is the production you and your family must see, a story presented with heart as only Anaheim Ballet can present it, as more than dance... Experience a spectacle of towering Christmas trees, waltzing flowers, battling toy soldiers and menacing mice. The enduring theme remains unchanged-good overcomes evil-but AB's staging of the family classic is constantly updated, which keeps the production fresh. The story is a source of inspiration for those of all ages and interests.

Anaheim Ballet celebrates its 30th season of Nutcracker performances featuring staging and choreography by Sarma Lapenieks Rosenberg, Anaheim Ballet's acclaimed artistic director.

The annual trek to Nevada is somewhat of a tradition. Wander into the home of Anaheim Ballet right now and you will see volunteers sewing dresses, racks of tutus everywhere, newly whitened ballet shoes, props and scenery all ready to be loaded into trucks and shipped off to the Riverside Resort in Laughlin, NV. The full company will board a coach for the five hour journey and during the 5 or 6 day trip will perform the Nutcracker five times! Then they come back to Anaheim

About the year's Clara

Madeline Czekaj is a junior, with straight A's, from Whittier High School. The youngest of three siblings (Nicholas 27, and Natascha 20,) she's always loved ballet, and the violin. As luck would have it, when her mom, Sylvia Flores, couldn't find a violin instructor, Madeline found formal training for two years at Anaheim ballet! She has seen incredible the growth under the guidance of great profesionals at AB. "It's been a blessing," says Sylvia.
