APACF Gets Closer To The Goal

By Michael Buss, 2015-10-02

For several years the Anaheim Performing Arts Center Foundation (APACF) has been holding elegant Sunday afternoon soirees at Fox Pointe Manor to help generate interest and funding for the proposed center. And the introduction from APACF President, Linda Knohl, has always been much the same – a quick survey of the needs and the vision. But the last soiree was different. All of a sudden there was real news and a new sense of excitement!

Student Hosts

The program was hosted by Natalie Sanchez and Mark Grabador, two very fine drama students from Brookhurst JHS, who performed Shakespeare's "All the wordl's a stage." Under the general title of Hooked on Classics the select audience enjoyed first-class live music performance from a cello trio from Corona, a splendid operatic bass soloist and a saxophone quartet.

After an intermission for desserts and cheese the program resumed with a brass quintet and a wonderful variety of classical and pop music from Vern Nelson. Linda Knohl commented, “I have never every heard my piano played like that!”

  • Western Saxophone Quartet
  • South Coast Brass Quintet
  • Piano, Vern Nelson

But what about the exciting news?

Earlier this year a team of consultants met with representatives of various arts organizations in Anaheim, including, of course, APACF. What would be the requirements if APACF were able to set up shop in the City National Grove of Anaheim? The consultants conducted surveys on the desirability of such a performing arts center (PAC) in locales as far away as Irvine, Newport Beach, Costa Mesa and Garden Grove. The results were overwhelmingly positive. People WANT Anaheim to have its own PAC.

As far as we know the news coming from City Hall is also very good and it’s expected that staff will make it’s presentation to the Council in a few weeks’ time. The mood of optimism is palpable.

If, after all these years of persistent promotion and planning, the dream becomes a reality we at the Arts Council will be thrilled.

APACF is member organization of the Arts Council.
