Splendid Start to International Dance Festival

A warm welcome to The Red Shoes

By Staff reporter, 2012-08-11
The Anaheim International Dance Festival (AIDF) kicked off in fine style Friday night with a screening of the magnificently re-mastered and digitized movie “The Red Shoes” – a seven year project of love supervised my Martin Scorsese. Whisked back to the post-war era a young ballet dancer is torn between the man she loves and her pursuit to become a prima ballerina.

Based on Hans Christian Andersen’s fairy tale of the same name Anton Walbrook, Marius Goring and Moira Shearer provide the central drama. Both artistically and dramatically this is a very fine movie – well worth getting on Netflix.

The great event of the weekend will be tonight, Saturday 11th August, at The Grove of Anaheim. Splendid line-up of international ballet stars will take the floor in a dazzling and highly varied dazzling program.

HERE’S THE HOT NEWS. If you haven’t already bought a ticket, and maybe not even thought about going, you could turn up at 7pm for the “rush” tickets which will be on sale at half-price. Of course, if you can afford the full price, please pay that – because this is still a fund-raising weekend for Anaheim Ballet.

There will be a large turnout tonight, because people are getting the message that not only do we have a very fine ballet company right here in Anaheim, but that ballet is hugely entertaining, beautiful to watch and covers the whole gamut of emotion from high comedy to tragedy.
