Anaheim Ballet School Free Performance Friday July 24
Join us Friday, July 24, 6:30pm at Pearson Park for the humorous and touching story of a girls academy and a boys military academy coming together for their “Graduation Ball”. It’s a boy meets girl for the first time event with all the comical and universal antics that ensue. The dancers from Anaheim Ballet School’s summer intensive program are 10-20 years old, but the timeless ballet Graduation Ball is celebrating its 75th anniversary.
This free community performance features Graduation Ball, additional performances by guest company artists from the Anaheim Ballet, and short works in jazz, hip-hop, modern, character, tap and more. Summer session students from Venezuela, Japan, Mexico, across the United States and local Orange County residents have been preparing for the evening during a 4-week intensive training session at the Anaheim Ballet.
Graduation Ball choreographer David Lichine and his wife Tatiana Riabouchinksa Lichine performed the lead roles in its 1940 Ballet Russe debut. The Lichines were not strangers to Walt Disney or to Anaheim. In Disney’s great classic, Fantasia, Mr. Lichine was a model for Ben Ali Gator and Mrs. Lichine was the model for the famous Hyacinth Hippo ballerina. They were also featured performers in the Disney film Make Mine Music. Tatiana Riabouchinska Lichine was a mentor to Anaheim Ballet directors Lawrence and Sarma Lapenieks Rosenberg and a frequent guest teacher at Anaheim Ballet until her death at 80 years old.
This free performance is at Pearson Park Amphitheatre on Friday, July 24, 6:30pm. For more information on Anaheim Ballet, visit www.anaheimballet.org or call 714 520-0904.
