OC Symphony Presents Clarion Calls Next Sunday
†The Orange County Symphony (OCS), will present the seventh concert of its subscription season on Sunday, April 14, offering concerto movements Georg Christoph Wagenseil, Gerald Finzi, and Richard Strauss performed by the orchestraís finest principal wind and brass players, as well as works by Gioachino Rossini and Ludwig van Beethoven.
The concert will open with Rossiniís Overture to The Barber of Seville, the beloved piece perhaps best known as the theme from the 1949 Warner Brothers cartoon Bugs Bunny: The Rabbit of Seville. Following the melodious opening movement of the Wagenseil Concerto for Trombone and the sublime slow movement of the Finzi Clarinet Concerto, the first half will conclude with the rousing first and last movements of Straussís Horn Concerto No. 1. Beethovenís classic Symphony No. 1, with its unforgettable balance of power and grace, will close the concert.
Founded in 1985, the Orange County Symphony is a regional semi-professional orchestra serving a metropolitan area of approximately 3 million people. The OCS is honored to be part of the Anaheim community and in July, 2011 was designated as the Resident Symphony Orchestra for the City of Anaheim. The orchestra is led by Dr. David Rentz, an accomplished choral, orchestral, and opera conductor, who currently serves on the faculties of the music departments of Pomona and Scripps Colleges, and is the choral director at the First Congregational Church of Riverside.
