Bluegrass Band and Appalachian-Country Duo Share Stage
Suzie Glaze - here May 19th.
The Living Tradition Concert Series proudly presents Susie Glaze and the Hilonesome Band appearing with Jeni & Billy in concert on Saturday, May 19, 2012.
Folkworks Magazine voted Susie Glaze & The Hilonesome Band #3 in "Folkworks' Top Ten Live Acoustic Bands in Southern California for 2008," writing "Susie is justifiably endorsed by Appalachian music legend Jean Ritchie, and the band has a fine repertoire of beyond-bluegrass originals from its chief songwriter, Rob Carlson.” Other praise from KPFK’s FolkkScene: "Susie Glaze has one of the most beautiful voices in bluegrass and folk music today. She performs a song straight from her heart and soul."
“This is either the most sophisticated simple music or the simplest sophisticated music I’ve ever heard.” That comment, heard after a Jeni & Billy performance, sums up the appeal of the duo’s “New Old Music.” Jeni & Billy’s harmonies harken to a lost time and reverberate with a rare honesty, as they inhabit the lives of miners, preachers, ramblers, lovers, and plain-living folks. Jeni & Billy bring to the work very distinct musical backgrounds that both draw from the deep well of Appalachian roots music.
